The Best AI travel planning apps in 2026

  • 12 apps ranked
  • Updated Oct 2026
  • Researched from official sources

AI can now turn "5 days in Lisbon, slow mornings, great food" into a full itinerary in seconds. But the apps are very different: some generate whole trips by chat, some are planners with AI helpers built in. We tested the leading AI trip planners and ranked them with the same published rubric.

How we rank AI travel planners

Every app was checked on 6 October 2026 against its own website, pricing page and app-store listings, plus recent independent reviews where available. Each gets five scores out of 10, weighted into an overall score.

Ties are broken by the planning quality score. To be listed, a tool's AI has to actually build a day-by-day itinerary you can save and edit, so booking sites whose AI only suggests hotels, and apps that just organise existing bookings, aren't included. The list is open: developers can submit an app, and we review it with the same rubric.

Features are scored half by our editors and half by this published checklist, ticked only where the app's own pages or app-store listing confirm it:

  • Plan and refine trips by chatting with the AI
  • Edit the itinerary directly (reorder, add or remove stops)
  • Group trip planning with shared editing
  • Flight or hotel prices you can book from the plan
  • Imports bookings from confirmation emails
  • Plans from links, videos, photos or documents
  • Map view with routes or travel times
  • Offline access to your plan
  • Help during the trip: alerts, nearby tips or translation

Rankings are editorial. Companies can't pay to change a score or a position, and any paid placement is labelled Featured.

Quick answers

What is the best AI travel planning app?

In our October 2026 tests, Google's Gemini and AI Mode scored highest (8.5/10) thanks to live Google Maps, Flights and Hotels data, followed by Wanderlog (8.3) for collaborative planning and Mindtrip (8.1) as the best free all-in-one assistant.

What is the best free AI trip planner?

Mindtrip is completely free and covers planning, maps, price alerts and flight booking. Tripadvisor's AI trip builder is also free and grounded in traveller reviews, and Wonderplan is a simple free web option.

Which AI travel planner is best for group trips?

Wanderlog and Stippl both let several people edit the same trip live. Stippl adds shared budgets and packing lists; Wanderlog has the strongest ratings and a browser extension.

Can AI travel planners book flights and hotels?

Some can. Mindtrip books flights in chat, and Layla attaches live flight and hotel prices to its plans. Planner-first apps like Wanderlog, Stippl and Polarsteps focus on building the itinerary, and you book separately.

Do companies pay to be on this list?

No. Rankings come from the published rubric and can't be bought. Developers can pay for a Featured spot above the ranking; it's always marked Sponsored and never changes scores or positions.
