The Best AI meal planner apps in 2026

  • 7 apps ranked
  • Updated Oct 2026
  • Researched from official sources

AI meal planners turn your tastes, diet and budget into a week of meals and a shopping list, so you spend less time deciding what's for dinner. Some build full plans around calorie and macro targets, others start from the recipes you save or the food already in your fridge. We checked the leading apps and ranked them with the same published rubric. Nutrition figures are estimates, not medical or dietary advice.

How we rank AI meal planners

Every app was checked on 24 October 2026 against its own website, pricing page and app-store listings, plus independent coverage where available. Each gets five scores out of 10, weighted into an overall score.

Ties are broken by the plan quality score. To be listed, an app's core job has to be planning meals or recipes and the grocery list that goes with them, using AI or automatic plan generation. Pure calorie counters and recipe sites without AI planning aren't included. The list is open: developers can submit an app, and we review it with the same rubric.

Features are scored half by our editors and half by this published checklist, ticked only where the app's own pages or app-store listing confirm it:

  • Builds a full weekly meal plan for you automatically
  • Plans follow your diet, allergies or calorie and macro goals
  • Grocery list built automatically from your plan
  • Suggests meals from ingredients you already have
  • Save or import recipes from websites or social media
  • Shows or tracks calories and macros
  • Household sharing or adjustable servings
  • Order groceries from your list through delivery partners

Rankings are editorial. Companies can't pay to change a score or a position, and any paid placement is labelled Featured.

Quick answers

What is the best AI meal planner app?

In our October 2026 comparison, Samsung Food scored highest (8.1/10) for its free recipe saving, weekly planner and grocery ordering, with AI-built weekly plans on Food+. Eat This Much (8.0) is the strongest for automatic plans built around calories, budget and schedule, and Fitia (7.8) leads for meal plans tied to calorie and macro tracking.

Is there a free AI meal planner?

Samsung Food's free app covers recipe saving, weekly meal planning, shared shopping lists and grocery ordering. Prospre's free plan builds meal plans from your macro goals with a grocery list, Eat This Much plans single days for free, and DishGen gives 15 free AI recipes or plans a week. Full weekly AI plans usually need a subscription.

Which AI meal planners can order groceries for me?

Samsung Food sends your list to integrated grocery retailers in several regions, Eat This Much Premium connects to Instacart and AmazonFresh, and Prospre can fill an Amazon Fresh or Instacart cart from your plan. The others give you a list to shop with yourself.

Are Mealime, PlateJoy and Yummly still available?

No. Mealime's website says the app shut down on 21 October 2026, PlateJoy's website no longer loads, and Yummly.com now redirects to KitchenAid's recipe pages, so none of them are ranked. Plan to Eat is still running but doesn't use AI to plan, and Ollie has become a general family assistant, so they aren't ranked either.

Can an AI meal planner give medical or dietary advice?

No. These apps estimate calories and nutrients and can follow diet preferences such as vegetarian or keto, but they aren't a substitute for a doctor or registered dietitian. If you have a health condition, allergy or specific nutritional needs, check with a qualified professional.
