🚨 Google Cloud Just Doubled to $30.7 Billion — and Alphabet's Stock Still Dropped
Google Cloud revenue jumped 103% to $30.7B in Q3, but Search and EPS missed and Alphabet shares fell about 7% after hours.

Google Cloud made $30.7 billion in three months, up 103% from a year ago, Alphabet said after the US market closed on Wednesday, 28 October (Alphabet).
That’s the good news. The rest of the report was softer than Wall Street wanted, and shares were initially down about 7% in after-hours trading (24/7 Wall St.).
So you get a cloud business on fire, and a stock that flinched anyway.
⚡ What Happened
- Total revenue: $127.6 billion, up 25%, a whisker under the roughly $127.9 billion analysts expected (24/7 Wall St.).
- Google Cloud: $30.7 billion versus about $29.1 billion expected, with operating income of $11.1 billion, up from $3.6 billion a year ago (Alphabet).
- Google Services (Search, YouTube, ads): $96.3 billion, up 11%, but below the $98.4 billion forecast. Search came in at $63.4 billion against $64.9 billion expected.
- Earnings per share: $2.12, down from $2.87 a year ago and well short of the roughly $3.00 consensus (BigGo Finance). A big chunk of that came from an $8.7 billion loss on equity securities, not from the core business.
- Capex: $51.4 billion spent on property and equipment in the quarter alone.
“We had a strong quarter and are now on a half-trillion dollar revenue run rate.” — Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet
🧠 Why It Matters
Google Cloud is now a $120-billion-a-year business on this quarter’s pace, and it more than tripled its profit. Pichai credited demand for AI infrastructure and Google’s own TPU chips, which it now sells as full systems to outside customers.
That’s the clearest proof yet that the AI spending is turning into revenue somewhere. The trouble is where it isn’t. Search and YouTube ads both missed, and Search is still the engine that pays for everything else.
Pichai also said the Gemini app has reached one billion users, and Google’s model APIs are handling nearly 32 billion tokens per minute, more than four times last year’s rate.
🔜 What To Watch
- The earnings call (4:30pm ET / 8:30pm London tonight): listen for any change to the $195 billion to $205 billion capex range for 2026.
- Whether the drop holds. After-hours moves are thin and jumpy. Thursday’s open is the real verdict.
- Microsoft reported on the same evening, and Amazon reports Thursday. If their clouds also boom, the “AI is paying off” story gets louder.
Analyst reactions and the full call commentary are still coming in.
