AI answer engine with numbered citations on every answer and a choice of models
Free plan · paid from $20/month
AI search engines answer your question directly instead of handing you ten blue links, and show the web pages the answer came from. Some are free and built into search you already use, some are paid and ad-free, and some put privacy first. We checked the leading ones and ranked them with the same published rubric.

For developers
People compare AI search engines on this page before they choose. Paste your website after checkout and we'll research, score and publish your listing.
Every search engine was checked on 23 October 2026 against its own website, pricing, help pages and app-store listings, plus independent 2026 reviews. Each gets five scores out of 10, weighted into an overall score.
Ties are broken by the answer quality score. To be listed, a product's main job has to be answering web searches with up-to-date answers that cite their sources. General chatbots, AI browsers and deep-research report tools are ranked in their own lists. The list is open: developers can submit an app, and we review it with the same rubric.
Features are scored half by our editors and half by this published checklist, ticked only where the app's own pages or app-store listing confirm it:
Rankings are editorial. Companies can't pay to change a score or a position, and any paid placement is labelled Featured.

In our October 2026 comparison, Perplexity scored highest: every answer carries numbered citations, follow-ups keep the context, and Pro lets you pick the AI model. Google AI Mode came a close second as the best free option, followed by ChatGPT search for searches that turn into longer tasks.
Google AI Mode is free inside Google Search and handles photos, voice and follow-up questions. Brave Search's AI answers and Ask Brave are free with no account, and Microsoft's Copilot Search in Bing also works without signing in.
Brave Search runs its own index, says it doesn't profile users, and deletes Ask Brave chats after 24 hours of inactivity. DuckDuckGo says it never tracks your searches and generates its AI answers anonymously. Kagi is paid, ad-free and says it never uses your searches to train AI.
If you search a lot and want no ads, possibly: plans start at $5 a month for 300 searches, with unlimited searches at $10. Its Quick Answer and Assistant cite sources well, but free rivals such as Perplexity, Google AI Mode and Brave cover most everyday needs, which is why Kagi has the lowest value score and ranks sixth overall.
No. Rankings come from the published rubric and can't be bought. Developers can pay for a Featured spot above the ranking; it's always marked Sponsored and never changes scores or positions.
