Apple just unveiled HomeView, a $299 smart home display with a 7-inch screen, and you can pre-order it right now (Apple Newsroom).

It landed at Apple’s “Welcome home” event in New York, which kicked off at 2pm London time today. Alongside it: a new Apple TV 4K, HomePod mini 2, and a whole lineup of cameras, locks and thermostats built with LG and Schneider Electric.

HomeView ships Friday, November 13, in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, India and New Zealand. It will not go on sale in the EU.

⚡ What Happened

HomeView is an aluminium 7-inch display perched on a domed speaker base, joined by a stainless steel hinge so you can tilt it. It runs on an A18 chip and comes in silver, starlight, rose pink and space gray. A wall-mounted version also costs $299 (US) (Apple).

The headline trick: it recognises up to six people by their faces. Walk up and it switches from the household screen to your Home Screen, with your Messages, Calendar and Reminders. Your partner sees theirs. Apple says personal content only appears when the recognised person’s iPhone or iPad is nearby and was recently unlocked.

It also runs Siri AI, Apple’s rebuilt, more conversational assistant, and can stream up to nine camera feeds at once.

The rest of the haul (Apple):

  • Apple TV 4K: A19 chip, up to 50% faster CPU and 2x faster GPU, three far-field mics for hands-free Siri. $299, out November 13.
  • HomePod mini 2: $149, five colours, out October 30. Siri AI arrives later via a software update (Apple).
  • Apple Home Collection: LG cameras from $199.95, an LG video doorbell at $249.95, plus LG and Schneider thermostats from $199.95. They arrive from December (Apple).

“Apple HomeView is designed to be shared by everyone in the home yet feel completely personal to each user.” — Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing

🧠 Why It Matters

Amazon and Google have owned the kitchen-counter screen for years with Echo Show and Nest Hub. Apple has now walked into that room with a full squad: a screen, a speaker, a TV box and its own branded cameras and locks.

The face recognition is the real pitch. A shared family screen that keeps your texts away from your flatmate fixes the biggest awkwardness of these gadgets.

And the EU gap is worth noticing. Apple says HomeView isn’t on sale there because Siri AI isn’t available in iOS in the EU, and it’s “working constructively” with the bloc on a fix.

🔜 What To Watch

  • UK pricing: Apple’s announcement lists US prices. Check the UK store before you pre-order.
  • November 13: first reviews will show whether the face switching works smoothly in a busy kitchen.
  • December: the LG and Schneider accessories land, with some held until early 2027.

Event coverage is still coming in, so expect more details through the day.
