DeepSeek asked for ¥50bn. Investors offered ¥80bn. Why?

Bloomberg reported on 6 October 2026 that DeepSeek is set to raise at least 80 billion yuan, about $12 billion, after first seeking around 50 billion. The draw is price: DeepSeek lists its top model at $3.96 per million output tokens at peak, while OpenAI and Anthropic list theirs at $20 or more. DeepSeek has not announced the round.
