🚨 Meta Just Shipped Its First Frontier AI Model, Muse Wonder — and Priced It Like Claude Opus
Meta released Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, its first frontier AI models, with API pricing of $4/$20 per million tokens.

Meta has released Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, the first models it is willing to call frontier-class, and the API version costs $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens (TechCrunch).
The announcement went up on Meta’s newsroom just after 17:00 UTC on Monday, 12 October (Meta). Both models are available today.
This is the first top-tier model from the Superintelligence Labs team that Alexandr Wang has run since Meta rebuilt its AI effort, and Meta says it can go toe-to-toe with OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra and Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5 and Fable 5.1 (TechCrunch).
⚡ What Happened
- Muse Wonder is available through the Meta Model API and Muse Code (Meta AI).
- Muse Wonder Full, the bigger sibling, is Muse Code only, on the $50 and $200 monthly plans, with no API access (FelloAI, TradingKey).
- Both get a 1-million-token context window (Meta model card).
- Meta trained them at Prometheus, its gigawatt-scale data center in Ohio (Meta AI).
Meta’s big selling points are “Active Memory”, which carries context across conversations, and “Active Focus”, which keeps the model working toward a goal and checks in before important actions (Meta).
On Meta’s own charts, Wonder Full scores 57.5 on the SWE-Marathon coding test against 46.3 for Claude Opus 5.5, and both Wonder models land around 85.5 on MemoryBench against Opus’s 81.5 (AlphaSignal, FelloAI). Those are Meta’s numbers, not independent results. MemoryBench is Meta’s own benchmark.
🧠 Why It Matters
For more than a year, Meta has spent like a frontier lab without shipping like one. This launch is the first real test of whether its hiring spree and data-center bets produced a model you’d pick over the market leaders.
The price is telling. Wang had said API pricing would be “significantly lower” than rivals (TradingKey). Instead, $4/$20 roughly matches Claude Opus 5.5 (TechCrunch). If you’re a developer, Meta is asking you to switch on quality, not on cost.
It’s also closed-weight. The company that built its AI reputation on open Llama models is now selling access like everyone else (FelloAI).
🔜 What To Watch
- Independent benchmarks. Expect third-party scores within days that confirm or deflate Meta’s charts.
- The safety report. Meta says a full report is coming “soon” (Meta).
- The Muse app. Wonder will power Meta’s Muse agent, starting with paying subscribers. There’s no date yet for free users.
Key details, including independent test results, are still emerging.
