What it is
Gemini Code Assist adds Gemini-powered completion, chat and agent mode to VS Code, JetBrains and Android Studio, plus a terminal agent and a GitHub pull-request reviewer. Since June 2026 it serves business subscriptions only; Google now points individual developers to Antigravity.
Latest: From June 2026 the IDE extensions stopped serving free individual users, who were moved to Google Antigravity.
What the AI does
- Code completion and full function/file generation
- Agent mode with multi-file edits and MCP
- Terminal agent
- Automated GitHub pull request reviews
- Very large context; Enterprise connects private repos
Pros and cons
- Deep Google Cloud, Firebase and Android Studio integration
- Very large context window
- GitHub pull request review agent
- Enterprise customisation on private code
- Free individual tier discontinued in June 2026
- Confusing product line (Code Assist vs Antigravity)
